CPM General Information:
What does it do?
Your doctor has prescribed a home Continuous Passive Motion (CPM) device to aid in your joint rehabilitation. A CPM moves your joint passively and can provide many benefits following your surgery including:
- Minimizes formation of scar tissue
- Decreases pain and swelling
- Decreases overall joint stiffness
- Increases nutrition to the joint
- Helps to maintain the joint range of motion that you, your therapists and your
doctor are trying to achieve

Guidelines for CPM Use:
Your doctor has recommended the following usage:
_____________ times (sessions) per day (as can be tolerated)
_____________ hour(s) per session (as can be tolerated)
Slowly increase range of motion as can be tolerated.
Shoulder CPM Patients - Never exceed 120 degrees range of motion without physician approval.
- Never exceed 140 degrees maximum.

Note:
- Do not begin using CPM until 24 hours after your surgery.
- Discontinue using the CPM if you experience significant increased pain, redness, or swelling and contact your doctor.
